Making Designers Concepts Become a Reality

January 31, 2023 Ross McKenna
Nolita Bar, Dublin

Nolita Bar, Dublin. The bar design is one of the most impressive features of this project.

At Truwood, we play a vital role in bringing designers' concepts to life. Whether it's a custom piece of furniture, a showpiece staircase, or a bespoke reception desk, specialist joinery companies such as ours, have the skills, expertise, and equipment to turn even the most ambitious designs into reality.

Communication is Key

One of the first things we do is set up a consultation with the designer to get an understanding of their concept and intent. An important aspect of the relationship between joinery companies and designers is communication. Designers have a vision in their mind, but it takes a skilled joinery company to translate that vision into a tangible, physical form. This requires regular communication between both parties, as well as a deep understanding of both the designer's aesthetic and the technical capabilities of the joinery company.

Designs and Drawings

One of the key ways in which we work closely with designers is through the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software. Our specialist technicians will create detailed 3D models of the designer’s concepts, which can then be shared for review and analysis. Once everyone is happy, these models are used to create detailed plans and drawings, which guide the fabrication process.

Fabrication Process

Once the plans and drawings are in place, we can begin the fabrication process. This typically involves a combination of traditional woodworking techniques, such as machining, veneering, stitching and routing, as well as more modern methods, such as CNC machining and and spray finishing in our automated line. Depending on the designer’s specifications, we will also use a variety of high-quality materials, such as hardwoods, veneers, and laminates, to create a durable, long-lasting product that meets their specifications.

Final Product

Finally, we work closely with the designer to ensure that the final product meets their expectations. This may involve making minor adjustments or tweaks to the design, or it may involve a final inspection and quality control process to ensure that the product is up to the designer's standards.

As a specialist joinery company, we play a crucial role in bringing designers' concepts to life. By using advanced CAD software, communicating effectively, and utilising traditional and modern fabrication techniques, we can turn even the most ambitious designs into reality, and create beautiful and unique pieces that stand the test of time.
